This 1972 Porsche 911 T 2.4 Targa is a highly charming example of the early long-hood generation, finished in the period-correct and beautifully understated shade of Sepia Brown, paired with a Black Leatherette and Perlcord interior.
Produced on 5 October 1972 and first registered in December 1972, this example was delivered new in Belgium and is accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, documenting its factory specification as well as its VIN, engine and transmission… numbers.
The 1972 model year holds a particularly special place in Porsche history thanks to the famous “Ölklappe”, the external oil filler flap positioned on the right rear quarter panel. Introduced when Porsche relocated the oil tank to improve weight distribution, this one-year-only feature was discontinued after some owners mistakenly filled it with fuel. Today, it has become one of the most recognisable and desirable details of the 1972 911.
As a true long-hood 911, this car retains the pure early design language that defines the first generation of the model: slim bumpers, elegant proportions and the unmistakable classic 911 silhouette. In Targa form, it adds the pleasure of open-air driving while preserving the iconic character of the early cars.
The 911 T, standing for Touring, was the most accessible version of the 2.4-litre range, sitting below the E and S. Today, it is appreciated for its more usable, approachable and mechanical driving character — a classic 911 that can be enjoyed without losing the authentic feel of the early cars.
Powered by its 2,341 cc air-cooled flat-six, producing 130 hp, this 911 T is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, giving it the simple and engaging character expected from an early seventies Porsche. The certificate records the car’s identification details, including VIN 9113510429, engine number 6530903 and transmission number 7333094.
Restored in 2020, this 911 T Targa presents today as an attractive and usable classic rather than a concours-level restoration. The odometer currently shows 60,615 km.
Overall, this Belgian-delivered 1972 Porsche 911 T 2.4 Targa “Ölklappe” combines one of the most distinctive one-year-only features of the early 911 range with a desirable long-hood silhouette, a period-correct colour combination and the enjoyable usability of the 2.4-litre Touring model.
